Birkman Method®
What is the Birkman Method?
The Birkman Method® consists of a 298-question personality assessment
and a series of related report sets that facilitate team building, executive
coaching leadership development, career counseling and interpersonal conflict
resolution. The Birkman Method® combines motivational, behavioral
and interest evaluation into one single assessment, which provides a multidimensional
and comprehensive analysis, thus reducing the need for multiple assessments.
The questionnaire is delivered on-line and should take about 45 minutes
to complete. It has been translated into 11 languages in addition to English.

LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP AVAILABLE
FOR GROUPS OR CONFERENCES
The Birkman Method® is an industry-leading personality assessment
that facilitates team building, executive coaching, leadership development,
career management and interpersonal conflict resolution. The Birkman Method®
creates a multi-dimensional portrait of individuals highlighting their
usual behaviors, stress behaviors and underlying needs.
This workshop is particularly energizing for people who have a great deal
of experience as trainers or leaders and could use a look in the mirror
about their behavior and expectations of others. It answers the question:
"How do others see us?"
Participants will first take an on-line survey at their convenience several
weeks before the workshop. It takes about 45 minutes to an hour to complete.
At the workshop, they will receive an individual Leadership Style Grid
(see below or attached .pdf for John
Q. Public) based on their self-reports. It describes their unique
styles of leadership, including their goals, their approaches, what motivates
them to learn and what happens when they are under stress. It also compares
the participant's leadership style to others. Sometimes directors and
trainers think that what is encouraging to them is motivating to others
and are surprised when it isn't; the Birkman helps directors and leaders
think about how to modify their own behavior to meet the needs of diverse
staff and students.
The workshop will cover the leadership profiles of the group with exercises
to help participants build new skills and awareness. The 4 elements of
the grid are:
1. Usual Behavior
- an individual's effective behavioral style of dealing with relationships
and tasks. Some leaders are more out-going and forceful; some more low-key.
Both can be successful leaders and directors.
2. Underlying Needs - an individual's expectations of how relationships
and social situations should be governed in context of the relationship
or situation. People may not respond well when they are treated as they
treat others.
3. Stress Behaviors - an individual's ineffective style of dealing
with relationships or tasks; behavior observed when underlying needs
are not met. This is the behavior colleagues, students and staff have
seen but never tell the leader. Participants will learn how to avoid
exhibiting these behaviors and using strategies which bring out the
best in others.
4. Interests - an individual's expressed preferences and goals.
Some leaders are task oriented; some people oriented. Some are interested
in being directly involved; some indirectly.
In addition to the
presenter's fee, there is a $30 charge for each participant to take the
Birkman on-line survey, administered by the presenter.
FROM A CLIENT
Margaret,
Several years back, we worked together on creating my Birkman profile.
I've always used the profile in both my personal and professional life
as a reminder of how my usual behaviors and stress behaviors reveal themselves
to others. The Birkman has been a useful tool for growth. However, it
wasn't until just recently that I realized just how much opportunity for
growth could come from the Birkman. I was discussing the Birkman with
my training partner, with whom I have worked for the last 8 years. We
discovered that she, too, had a Birkman profile and that, like mine, it
was created with you! It was a surprise to us both. More surprising, though,
was to find that we were entirely different Birkman 'colors.' Entirely
different! While we already had a sense of our different approaches to
our work, the Birkman helped us to better understand our individual styles,
as well as our stress behaviors. And from our discoveries, we've created
a new and more powerful synergy in our work together. It has been remarkable!
Thank you again for introducing me to the Birkman.
